Time to Be A Bastard On The Wall: The Game of Thrones Guide to Skillful Grain Trading

By June 4, 2020Blog

If you have been watching the news at all from, around say . . . three months ago to any time until now, you may have noticed something interesting: the world has gone full nutbar.

It’s has been a time of economic uncertainty, cultural upheaval a global health pandemic and without getting too political—a complete mystery in terms of what great leadership might be.

In times like these I wonder about what the future holds and am reminded of one of my favorite TV shows, Game of Thrones.

If you exclude the medieval background, dragons, magic and scantily clad supermodels that seem to be everywhere . . . the show is not unlike the world we are in now: there’s sinking kingdom debts, psychopathic boy-kings, barbarian riots and threats from across the sea.

However, the question is, how does the shows protagonist John Snow cope with all the nonsense? The answer: he gets competent—and really quick.
John Snow–a bastard to a high-born family—is a character born into a life of shame and ridicule. When calamity occurs, Snow responds by joining the Nights Watch—a group of soldier-like brothers who guard the realm atop a giant ice wall, protecting civilization from invaders.

By forgoing a life of excitement and royal privilege, Snow instead focuses on his job and the very present small world of his northern surroundings; in the process develops discipline he cultivates character and virtue.

What the hell does this have to do with grain trading?

I recently, deleted all my social media. Yes, there’s a lot of calamity in the world, and a lot of nonsense to be concerned with, and it’s good to be informed. But I’m pretty small—all things considered. So, the best impact I can have in uncertain times—is to tune out the noise and make the word smaller; focus on the job and grow in discipline, which means growth in the continuation of great grain-pricing opportunities for you.

So, when in doubt, in a world of mayhem and incompetence—the only answer is . . . to get competent and become: a bastard on the wall!

Recent News

Here are some recent news articles that we found interesting and informative. We start off with a very interesting article on how bumblebee’s speed up flowering and what is happening to them.

We are currently seeing some optimism in the feeder market seeing $6-8 higher on average for Canadian yearlings. Which follows up into our next article talking about a program that is being put into place to help bridge the gap between the consumer and the producer. We then follow up into our last article an article about a study looking for Alberta producers who are growing winter wheat, two-row barley and durum to participate in a study that aims to develop a disease prediction model for fusarium.
