Reignite the Spark for Passion

By September 1, 2022Newsletter

I have loved and been fascinated with musical instruments for as long as I can remember. When I was growing up I remember my mom would listen to pop music such as Aqua and NSYNC while she was doing chores, but outside my dad would always have his music going on his cassettes and that was always much more enjoyable for me, he would listen to lots of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, the list goes on for the old heavy metal bands he would play.

That is the music that really got me interested in musical instruments, but primarily the guitar. I remember seeing the music video for Metallica’s song “One” as a kid and thinking “I need to learn how to play that.”. Not too many Christmases after that I ended up getting my first little electric guitar after asking Santa for it enough times, and then began my journey of playing.

Over the many years of playing, I found that sometimes you need a little something new to bring that old motivation or love you may have felt when you first started learning and playing. The thing I found that helps with this is really trying to push your limits with what you can play. My first bump up to try and push myself was 5 or 6 years ago when I received an Ibanez electric guitar for Christmas, this guitar had 3 extra frets closest to the bridge which allowed me to learn and play solos unlike any I had learned before.

Now my most recent bump up that has allowed me to feel that same old passion again was getting myself a 12-string acoustic guitar. The 12-string guitar looks really like the 6-string, but the 6 strings come in pairs of 2 with each pair being an octave a part, expect for the top E and B strings. This gives the guitar a beautiful swirling sound, and not to mention many amazing songs of the 70’s and 80’s was written and recorded with 12-strings so now I can learn some of those old songs and get the exact sound I am looking for. And with that 12-string it even made me appreciate the 6-string in a different way and sparked that same old passion which would keep me playing for hours at a time.

So, if you are finding you need to get some motivation, or passion for that old hobby you used to love, maybe this newsletter will help inspire you. Maybe you will just need to push yourself a little harder to get that good old spark.

Buyer Brief – by Bryce Taylor

This week harvest is continuing across Western Canada. In today’s edition of the Agfinity Market Report I will try and give you a brief overview of how the Ag news has described the harvest and the prices we have seen this week.

According to the Sask Wheat Development commission this week, Alberta Ag is expecting average wheat yields in Alberta to be 53.2 bushels per acre, up from their last estimate of 32.8 bushels per acre. The outlook from Sask Wheat is that Wheat markets will continue to follow corn as there is little wheat specific news. Winter wheat harvest is rapping up in the Northern Hemisphere and the Canadian harvest is progressing well, so production amounts are essentially accounted for in the market. We have seen prices of $10.75-11.00 per bushel for graded and $9.50-10.00 per bushel feed wheat delivered.

As harvest is underway, barley yields seem to be average, which is slowly grinding prices down. Currently bids are at $6.50-$7.00/bu picked up in central Alberta and western Saskatchewan with prices slightly higher moving towards Lethbridge. Common prices heard among buyers is $350/MT Sept-Oct and $360-$370/MT Nov-Jan delivered Lethbridge. Prices at the line companies are hovering around $300-320/MT delivered Sept-Oct.

According to the Western Producer this week, canola forecast is 41 bu. per acre, which is around the 5 year average. That average does not include the drought ravaged 2021 season. Currently we are seeing less volatility in the market. Prices have been somewhat steady over the past 2 weeks at $18.50-19.50 per bushel delivered.

The oat market remains quiet for another week as harvest progresses. The crop looks to be in good shape quantity and quality wise. We have some buyers not looking for new contracts until January and even into March. Current prices from buyers are around $4.50 delivered for milling and $3.50/4.00 per bushel for feed oats.

We are hearing reports of pulse yields being below average. Pricing seems to be static bids. While there are opportunities to price peas and lentils, they may not be at the level producers were targeting or counting on. We are likely to see Canadian pea values remain fairly soft in the near term as current prices are not competitive enough for the global market. Current specials for #2 green and yellow are $12.00/bu with many bids around $11.50/bu delivered.

Sellers Tip: Currently futures prices and domestic prices are seeming less volatile than they have been since February. Please call us today at 1-888-969-5552 to talk pricing and movement strategy. We are always on the look out for premiums or special programs available.
